Hobson IMPAX Phillips Insert Driver Bit S
Description:
Phillips Bits
The Phillips drive was patented in the 1930s as a self-centring cross-recess that lets the bit cam out (slip up and out of the recess) at the rated torque. That cam-out was an engineering feature on hand drivers, preventing over-tightening before torque-limiting clutches existed. On modern cordless and impact drivers it is the cross-recess most likely to slip under load, which is why Pozi and Torx have replaced Phillips on premium timber and structural fasteners. Phillips still dominates by volume across timber screws, self-tappers, machine screws and electrical hardware sold in Australia.
